Making Better Lifestyle Choices To Improve Your Professional Performance

Every day we make choices. We can choose to get up and get moving. We can choose to be happy. We can choose to reach for our goals. Or we can choose not to.

The lifestyle choices that we make affect everything, from our physical and mental health to our professional performance. So, when you fail to take care of yourself, you’re probably not going to see much success in your lifestyle or professional choices. It all starts with a healthy mind and body.

What we put into our bodies plays a hugely significant role in our day-to-day performance, especially in our field of profession. Whether on a stage or in the ER, it takes a great amount of fuel, and the right kinds of fuel, to keep us operating at our highest ability. Nutrition plays a big role in that.

We’ve all experienced the after-lunch slump at some point or another in our lives – you’re up, you’re moving, you’re perky and productive going into break, then you sit down for a big lunch, and that’s it. You’re done for the day. After, you feel lethargic and totally unproductive. Nobody wants that feeling; it’s a terrible feeling!

When you combine poor dietary choices with a sedentary lifestyle, your performance isn’t the only thing that will suffer. You open yourself up to potentially serious health issues.

The good news is you don’t have to feel like that ever again. With a little planning and a healthy mindset, our dietary choices can work for us, not against us. You see, a lot of our energy comes from proper digestion of nutrients from things like fruits and vegetables (and water! Don’t forget to hydrate!). When you take those out of the equation and go for the processed foods instead, you’re more likely to feel as if you’re performing at a small fraction of your full capacity.

A healthy diet and an active lifestyle really will take you further, not only speaking in healthy terms, but in your professional aspirations, as well.

In my own journey to finding a healthy balance, I’ve found that one of the easiest things to do is keep brain and energy stimulating snacks around. Snacks are good for a healthy boost, plus, they keep your metabolism in motion!

Some of my favorite healthy foods and snacks that keep me going, performing at my highest levels include:

  • Avocado
  • Blueberries
  • Carrots
  • Nuts and Seeds
  • Fish
  • Whole Grains
  • Dark Chocolate
  • Green Juices
  • Grapes

I highly recommend giving these healthy energy boosters a try! You won’t be sorry!

Foods rich in nutrients are just your starting point. A healthy diet goes hand-in-hand with an active lifestyle. Not only will you have more energy, you’ll just feel better and more fully satisfied with the choices that you are making for yourself.

Remember, you are in charge of the choices that you make. You are in charge of your own happiness. You are in charge of your personal success, and you are in charge of your professional success. Don’t be afraid to make it happen! Make your life a fit, flexible and fabulous one! It’s all in your hands! XO
